You need to use good quality packing tape to make sure your items are safe and secure in the packing boxes. This is especially true if you’re using boxes that have been used before, as they can have weakened at the important edges.

Be careful not to pack too many heavy items in each box, as it will make them really hard to lift, which can be a hazardous. It can be very easy to do this with items like books, so pack books into more, smaller boxes or spread them across boxes with other, lighter items. We recommend packing the heaviest items in the bottom of your boxes, as this makes them more stable, which is important especially in overseas moves where your boxes will probably be relocated several times.

When you’re doing a big move, space is at a premium, so make sure to fill every available space with soft furnishings, like cushions, doonas/duvets, scarves and towels. This helps protect other more fragile items, as well as saves you from having multiple boxes full of light and fluffy but very bulky items.

You’re definitely going to want to make sure you can close all of your boxes properly, and seal them with your good quality packing tape. Boxes that can’t seal up properly aren’t going to stack well, and will most likely not be covered by insurers in the event that something goes wrong.

Alternatively, if you don’t want to have the stress of packing your own boxes, you could leave it to the professionals. Overseas Packers & Shippers are able to help you with your move from end to end, helping make it a less stressful and more speedy process.
