Quarantine

Anyone entering Australia or bringing goods into Australia, must be aware of its strict quarantine regulations. Quarantine helps protect Australia. Food, plant material and animal products from overseas – including many common souvenirs could introduce serious pests and diseases.

When your goods enter Australia, Quarantine will treat your consignment as a high risk. For this reason 100% of all personal effects are subject to mandatory Quarantine Inspection.

Quarantine will check for live insects such as spiders and borer insects as well as soil and dirt contamination. The soil on a simple pair of sneakers may contain bacteria or disease which could wipe out Australian Crops. Make sure all your sporting, camping and garden equipment are spotlessly clean.

A representative from Overseas Packers & Shippers will be present during the entire inspection process to assist the Quarantine Officer with their inspection. Your items will be treated and handled with care as they are unpacked, inspected and repacked in the presence of an Australian Quarantine Inspection Services Officer.

Quarantine inspection Failure

Any goods which fail Quarantine inspection will be seized. Your assigned Imports Coordinator will then contact you in this regard to provide all options offered by Quarantine. These may include but not be limited by:

  • Quarantine cleaning
  • Disinfection treatments
  • Fumigation (Methyl Bromide, Ethylene Oxide ect)
  • Gamma Irradiation
  • Destruction

Most of these options will be done directly in our approved Quarantine wash bay and fumigation area. There are additional costs for these treatments which will be advised at the time by your Imports Coordinator. The cost varies depending on the treatment and size.

The list below can be used as a guide when deciding if you can bring various items into Australia. To find out more click on the following link Australian Quarantine.
